Wanted to ask if anyone knows a good way to find this feature where currently I use a dac/amp that when I plug in a headphone to the 1/4" the speakers will automute that are also connected. I'm specifically 1/4" because I'm aware that XLR doesn't have that detection capability.

But what are some dac/amps that have this feature? Honestly at this point almost any price point is fine from a few hundred to a few thousand. Or how is it listed as a something to search for.

Thanks!

I use Benchmark DAC3 and it mutes analog outputs when headphone jack is plugged in. Also have Chord TT2 and it behaves the same. Honestly, I think it’s quite standard.
I'm aware Chord does it but was hoping for something less expensive. I didn't know Benchmark did, but I've used a few different amps that don't do this so I'm not sure especially at lower price points.

Look at manuals or reviews of Topping, SMSL etc. I believe this feature is quite common. I’m talking about DAC / headphone amp combos, which also work as preamplifier with analog output for external (speaker) amp.

Well, after I looked closely to selected manuals of Topping, SMSL and Schiit products, I have to correct myself. These products generally allow muting analog preamp outputs, not by detecting headphone jack, but by menu selection (Topping, SMSL) or manual switch (Schiit). If you insist on jack detection, you'll have to do some research in manuals. Or ask some specialised seller.

Yeah that's what I thought, it's been surprisingly hard to find info on it.
