Hi All,

I am looking for a replacement for my current usb sound card (sound blaster SB1095) as it is dying and has a lot of issues with popping and hissing.

I am looking for something like the o2/odac or the hifiman ef2a (cheaper if possible) that accepts 6.5 mm headphone in as well as 3.5 ( or 6.5mm) mic input.

The headphones I am using are AD700's with a mod mic (thus the reason i want a mic input on the dac/amp)

I will be using these for music/ movies/ gaming(csgo) all of which are played out of my computer. the available ports on my cpu are usb 3 and spdif. The music i listen to is punk, indie, rock, jazz, and bluegrass. It doesnt need to be tailored to the music I just want something that will give me good quality sound and last for a long time.

Any advice is appreciated.

If your computer has a built in audio chip, you can use that for your mic and then get the dac/headphone amp for your headphones. So see how it sounds with a mic first and decide if you need that kind of extra feature :)

SoundBlaster X7. I'd normally prefer the E5, but it doesn't have virtual surround.

The Xonar U3 is only $39, 10% of the price, but it doesn't have a convenient volume knob. Also the X7 would be more capable of driving more headphones with less distortion.

. I suppose that is always a possibility. I could get a 3.5 mm extension to get it to the back of my computer and then just get the amp I want. Only issue is the look of doing something like that. I like to keep a clean looking desk. But sometimes you have to sacrifice office for what you really want!

So supplement the extension cable with a mouse bungee to help clean up.

Or get one of those professional USB interfaces, they have dac, headphone amp and microphone preamplifier in one unit.
Look up Focusrite Scarlet and Steinberg UR as examples.
