Hello Everyone,

I have a JVC HARX900 and m-audio BX5a deluxe studio monitors. I'm looking for a solution that could also act as a dac for my BX5a.

Here's my current list I'm considering:

gamma1 dac built by misterx (only 80$ for the USB-only option)
zero dac ~ 170$
EMU 202 USB: 99$

The first one, the gamma1 dac does not include a headphone amp, but it may be on the top of my list to buy as a partial solution. The zero dac would take care of everything at once, but I've heard some issues about it's reliability and it's more expensive than the gamma1 with possibly equal or lower sound quality.

I should be upfront about the fact that my main goal is to simply have a good DAC as an external sound card for my computer, and the headphone amp part would simply be a perk but certainly not a priority. If I wanted to, I could always add in a small headphone amp to the gamma1 such as the mini3 later. My budget is fairly tight now, which is why the 100$ difference is quite important to me. I am willing to push closer to 200$ if there is going to be a compelling gain in sound quality.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Ray
