My mom asked me to find her a "cute" cd mini system that costs $500 or less. I know about the tivoli system, which i think is cool, but i read horror stories about the cd player. is there anything else that is similar? I have the denon um31 which is very nice, but i was wondering if there is anything else?

The Mission/Denon systems are killer, but not cheap, prolly over your budget. I got a b-stock one like 5 years ago and still use it. What great sound from such a small unit.

I personally use a yamaha mcr-e300 (i live in a small room). I love it.
