After never getting the fit I want with IEM's I have decided to bite the bullet and pick up some customs. The catch is I don't like BA's... So, what is out there in the dynamic driver custom market? I have been looking around and haven't really found anything. I must admit I have never really paid any attention to customs as the lack of resale turned me away before. Thanks for any help you can offer.

Dynamic drivers generally have better (thicker) bass, wider soundstage, and less prominent highs. Dynamic drivers are more powerful than balanced armatures in a sense. It usually takes more balanced armatures to equal a dynamic, although it's not always the case.

Example: Sennheiser IE8 has 1 dynamic driver per earpiece, but is considered on par with or better than multiple triple driver arm based IEMS such as the TF10, Shure SE530, Westone 3, UM3X, etc.

Balanced armatures just present a different sound signature than Dynamics, really. There is a size difference though as well.

the first ever production level customs were futuresonics' Original Ear Monitors and they dynamic. i would imagine that they use materials that would better any dynamic on the market, except leave room for dynamic drivers which means, somewhere, a breathing hole must exist. for that reason, they may or may not suffer from wind noise.

Thanks for the link! Are there any other dynamic customs out there? I may give these a try solely because they are the only ones I can find.

Not many outside of futuresonic's I recall seeing one asian company with some dynamic balanced armature hybrids and stuff but futuresonic is probably your best bet.

Agreed. Futuresonics is probably your best way for Dynamic Customs right now...unless you can get a pair of IE8 in a custom molding or something

i´ve had the luck of comparing the Atrio M5 Rev 1 vs the Sennhaiser IE8,
they both sound very good, but the sound coming from the sennhaiser is much thicker and stronger,

now, supposobly the driver on the universals is the MG5+ and the driver on the customs is the MG4+, so my opinion of the Atrio M5 is compleatly usless,

the IE8 is a good IEM and ACS will make custom sleeves for it.
but the only true dynamic custom is still the Futuresonics,

The Atrio driver is the 10mm MG5PRO and the custom is the 13mm MG4PLUS. But maybe you can send the IE8 into to Unique Melody or something and get a custom monitor our of it. But iwould still say, go for the Futuresonics Custom.

I feel very limited with just one company to go with... Maybe I will give BA's a try in a budget custom like Alien Ear's to see if the custom molds help with my dislike of of BA's. Worst case, I send them back an I am out a few bucks for shipping and restocking. However, if I like them that will really open things up as far as the custom market goes.

My biggest problem is the size of good dynamic universal IEM's are just to big to be comfortable for me. (IE8's for example) However, the universal BA IEM's I have tried sounded very dull and too "flat" for my taste.

Are there any reviews of the Future Sonics Custom Ear Monitors? I saw one review here a few months ago that was translated from another language and was sort of hard to read. I can't find any other reviews though, they are all about the Atrios. Anybody know where some reviews are?

I would really like to know more about these. Most of my favorite artists use these for monitoring on stage and I'm curious about why they use Future Sonics and not Ultimate Ears or something.

i have a deep dislike of the sleek customs,
it has the same plug and tube system to customize the sound as the universal, but its factory fitted so you need to have a deep understanding of how the sleek sounds and how the different ports and tubes affect the sound before buying the custom, meaning you need to buy the universal first and then depending on your favorite port and tube configuration, you configure the custom and its factory set forever, you cant change it at home,
