x2 on the beresford. I have it running off my iMac thru a toslink cable. From the DAC I use a LD2++ and it sounds great with 595s. I am not sure what his production rate it right now, but once I ordered it he got it to me in just over a week.

I would support the external DAC aproach.

I have a Silverstone EB01 which came very highly recommended for about $100 and I've been very happy with it. I only have onboard sound on my PC. I don't need to worry about the soundcard now with the EB01.

Just got the E-MU 0404 USB at Guitar Center. The guy threw in a 2 year replacement plan for free. Plus, I'll still get the $50 rebate, so I got a pretty smokin deal.

As it goes for first impressions... Wow! There are pretty noticeable differences in detail and soundstage compared to the output on my Audigy 4. I love how I can pick out single instruments and hear where they're at in the "room."
