Hello.

I'm currently using the on board sound card that comes with a Gigabyte Z77-D3H motherboard.

I have no clue where to plug in the headphones. If I plug it into the green hole, VIA HD audio deck recognizes it as 'front speaker' and I end up missing a lot of sounds when I play certain games. It seems my options are either Center/LFE, Line In, Back Speaker, Front Speaker, or Microphone

Is there a way to set it as a headphone and have surround sound?

I am using the Monoprice 8323 headphones.

Thanks a ton!

The green mini-jack is the correct place to plug in the headphones.
Go to the gigabyte website and download the latest audio drivers (VIA audio drivers) for your motherboard.
Installing the latest audio software might add more audio settings/features.

Per the manual the "2-Speaker" setting is used for both 2 speakers and Headphones
There is a headphone setting in the Advanced Options section

Or go out and buy the Asus Xonar DG sound card.

Thanks. I tried updating but its the same problem. Uninstalling the driver and using whatever default audio driver Windows finds actually solved the problem for me.

Thanks!!

Seems I have another issue.

I have static and other noises that come through the headphones.
I don't hear this when I plug in my cable through my monitor connected with HDMI, so it seems to be something with my sound card?

Does anyone have any ideas? I noticed whenever I move my mouse a distinct noise can be heard, so its some kind of interference?

Hey mate,

Try taking out your graphics card to see if it changes anything.

I use an Essence STX and sometimes it picks up "inductor" discharge from my HD 6990 and it comes up as mechanical whine/static. Mostly happens when I stress the card (play games) then start listening to music though.

I just took it out and also my wireless card but I still seem to hear it.

Damn, maybe I will pick up a sound card in the future but I hope the same problem doesn't happen

Asus Xonar DG (PCI) sound card, $26.99 with a $10 mail in rebate, $16.99.
