Does anyone own both the Meze 99 Classic and Audio-Technica ATH-MX50? I'd be interested in your thoughts on a comparison of SQ. I already own a pair of Meze 99's for office use and am considering replacing them with a pair of ATH-MX50s. Would this be a huge step backwards in overall SQ and soundstage?

TIA

Yes it would be a downgrade. I don’t think a huge step but the 99c has some of the best imaging I have heard from a closed back.

I own the M50x and have heard both the 99 Classic and 99 Neo.

I think the 99 Classic is a significant improvement over the M50x in every category. And the 99 Classic has a better sounding midrange than the 99 Neo.

Thanks all. I'll back off of the idea. I love the Meze 99C's and realize they are different classes of cans. My only reason for wanting a different pair is that the headband strap (and gorgeous wood) does make the Meze's stand out. These are for an open office environment. I was looking for something with a lower profile and the ATH-MX50's seem to get good reviews.

I prefer the ATH-MSR7 over the ATH-M50X. Doesn't have that punchy bass from the M50X, but phenomenal level of detail.
Used them for a while in an open office environment too and didn't get complaints from my colleagues.
