So I've forever been having my eyes on the Oppo PM3. They're a bit older at this point and no longer in production, but I can probably find a pair used on eBay for $200.

But what else is out there in that price range? Any cool Aliexpress chi-fi recommendations? Is there a Takstar Pro 82 secret giant slayer equivalent for the planar world? I know Takstar has their own (open back) planars, but they have no removable cable, which is kind of a dealbreaker.

The best value on closed back planars is the Hyoerx Cloud Orbit. They're mad by Audeze with a removable Shure microphone and built in amplifier and DAC. I've gotten some for $100-$145 several times on eBay. The pads are available from Audeze and they use the same 100mm driver as other models. Sound isolation and comfort are top notch. One of those hidden gems out there.

Just be careful with the Cloud Orbit, as the drivers are VERY prone to self destructing when users push the headphones onto their ears, rapidly increasing the pressure between in the front driver cavity - which RIPS the driver apart.
I've seen way too many of these ripped drivers reported in various places, or even on sale 2nd hand.

Well, just shortly after opening this thread I randomly searched AliExpress, and found the official Hifiman store having a spring sale, where I went and got the closed back Sundaras for $110 which seems like a steal... By the looks of it they should be compatible with the balanced cable I got for my HE 400is too.
