Hello all. I'm new here, and would like to get into vinyls.

I currently own Audio Technica ATH-M50 headphones and a Fiio E5 amp.

What would be a decent record player for < $400?
I did some research and found that I could either get the Pro-ject Essential or Genie for around that price, however since they are not pre-amped, will the Fiio E5 work with those for the meantime, or will I have to save up more cash to get a proper amplifier?

Thanks for the help!

So you do not have a general pre-amp at this point?

You have to be able to amplify the signal or a phono cartridge as they output very low signals, so a phono pick-up of some type is required to give enough gain. Realize that this is a fairly important piece to the chain, and that besides the turntable you'll need that cartridge as well. If your budget is $400 the whole thing is a bit more challenging, if your talking just a turntable budget you can get some nice decks for that amount!

Thanks for the help! I am talking about the whole thing and nope, I have no pre-amp at all, at this point. Is there a cheap pre-amp/equipment that you recommend me to buy temporarily to just get it running? I honestly don't mind temparorily owning a piece of poop for now.

Appreciate your help!
