Chaintech AV-710 digital input?

By default it hasn't got one, but I wonder if it's possible to mod the card. I see the Chaintech site claiming the card supports "Support SPDIF-IN/OUT" but information about the card is incorrect on other occasions too (Envy24PT <-> HT-S). The PCB has a place (solder pads) for another optical connector right next to the output connector. Another Envy24HT-S based solution called Maddog Entertainer 7.1 is similar to this card, but it has the digital input connector.

I could then make a digital connection between Soundstorm and this card and get the better SQ for games too (althought it doesn't matter much).

I believe so. The rest use some Via 6 channel codec/DAC while the rear channels use the Wolfson DAC (same for both boards).
