My work rig is a TDK Mojo CD/MP3 player, a Headroom Little, and the Beyerdynamic DT 770 Pros.

I've had the Mojo for years, however I recently got the Little and the BDs and after a few weeks of listening to these phones on the TDK Mojo I realized that the midrange is a bit thin on this player through the line-out.

I also have an old Sony Car Discman D-802K that I've hooked up to the Little and the Beyers and the midrange is definitely improved bigtime in this setup. I'm still thinking that the sound could be improved though.

What I'm wondering is can I do better in a newer portable? My first choice is for a CD/MP3 portable player but I'd go CD only if the quality is that much better. So which new portables have excellent unbiased line-outs?

Am I asking for too much? Since this is a work rig I would like to keep it as a portable, however I could use a home sized unit if the payoff was big enough.

Thanks for your help.

iRiver IMP400??

I'm not really sure... I only had a brief audition of one, but it didn't sound so bad
