Case recommendation for X5.

I have a case from Noreve that is pretty good.

There's also a case from MisticAudio that a lot of folks seem to like, and it's a bit cheaper.

The case from iAudio doesn't have a protector over the screen so IMO not worth buying.

I have the MisticAudio case, love it. My only gripe is that the hole for the joystick doesn't line up perfectly, but it doesn't effect the functionality of use.

I totally agree, it is a great case. My other very minor complaint is the belt clip somehow sort of lacks the high-quality feel of a real Ultra-Clip, in a way I can't really positively put a finger on.

I have one also, and it is great overall. However, I really don't like the belt clip. It's one of those detachable ones that makes the player stick out really far from your body. It would have been great if they could have implemented a belt clip like the one on the mindknob v3 cases instead.

I have 2 for my 30GB X5L -- the MisticAudio, and a Timbuk2 which is a universal fitting case that happens to fit my X5L perfectly.

MisticAudio:
Good-
- Good quality leather and well constructed.
- The stiffness of the leather offers good protection from falls.
- A "play-through" case - meaning you have full funtionality available while it is in the case.
Bad-
- It makes my X5 is too thick to have in my pants pocket and do any kind of walking or commuting.
- I'm always afraid that I am going to damage the joystick when inserting the X5 into it due to the stiffness of the leather and the snug fit.

Timbuk2: http://www.timbuk2.com/tb2/catalog/c...?categoryId=13
Good-
- Excellent quality ballistic nylon with a very soft plush interior.
- Soft, so it protects from scratchs, but offers less protection from drops.
- It has a pocket in front that can fit the subpack and/or a pair of ER-6s etc.
- Great fit for either the X5 or X5L. Since the sides are elastic, it can be used for many other devices of similar dimensions.
Bad-
- You can use (listen to) the X5 while it is in the case (straigh or right-angle plug) but you cannot access controls. I usually listen to playlists while commuting, so for me this is not too much of a problem.

In the next month or so zCover http://www.zcover.com/products.htm is supposed to come out with a silicone case for the X5.

BTW - for screen protection I use these - http://www.pocketpctechs.com/ Quality screen protection like this is expensive, but it pays off. I have had the same WriteShield on my Dell Axim X5 Pocket PC for almost 2.5 years! And I use it extensively dozens of times every day! They sent me 2 (for ~$25) so I cut my spare down to fit my iAudio X5 screen. I'll never have to worry about it.

I am currently using a Canon Ixus digital camera case. Does the job although you have to take it out to use it (no problem for me).

Saved me buying a case which are overpriced to me.

I liked the Timbuk2 Accessory Case. Since I couldn't find one to purchase locally, I began to consider that it would be better to buy a case into which the iAudio X5L a SuperMacro-3, earphones plus a few extras would fit. I've ordered a neat iPod Gear Pouch from Waterfield Designs. http://www.sfbags.com/products/ipodp...dgearpouch.htm I'm looking forward to its arrival here in the next few days. Richard...

I'm sending them an email as well. We'll bombard them.

After the above post I ended up ordering a blue ZCover for my X5L that I just received the other day . . .

I can compare it to the silicone dlo and iSkin that I have for my iPod Mini. I prefered the dlo over the iSkin for reasons that also relate to the design of the ZCover. The construction for the ZCover is very similar to the others and I think they thought out the design of my ZCover very nicely. I really like the little bump-outs for the PLAY and REC buttons. It fits my X5L like a glove and it's very easy to get on and off. I only have 2 very minor complaints that required some minor surgery with an X-acto knife:
- The hole for the headphone plug was too small for a 1/4" to mini adaptor and a couple of my larger headphones with stock mini plugs that have a large diameter base to their plugs. So I had to make the hole a little bigger.
- I have big hands/fingers and I had a hard time accessing the Power/Hold switch quickly and efficiently, so I had to use the X-acto to make that opening bigger also. This was also a problem I had with the iSkin, and the reason why it only went on my iPod once and the dlo has been on since. dlo was smart enough to leave the top of the iPod (the side with the headphone plug and Power/Hold switch) uncovered. I guess this was impossible for ZCover to do with the X5 design.
Other than having to make these two minor adjustments to the design, I'm very happy with the ZCover. And I guess that's a good thing since there is not much else to choose from.
