I'm going to dizagree with Tangent (i will have to type a Z becauze my key next to A and D iz broken..)

Uzing 300 ohm canz, and playing a bazz tezt track near top volume w/ gain 11, the META42 had a lot of trouble when it got down to 40, 30, 20Hz. Voltage waz about +/- 8V. Opamp AD8610. Increazing voltage to +/- 12V helped

You were probably trying to make that bass as loud as normal listening volume for midrange sounds. Since your headphones, ears, and probably the rest of your audio chain attenuates bass, you have to turn it way up to get bass that rings your ears.

When setting up a high-volume stress test, you need to calibrate the volume with midrange tones. I use 315 Hz and 1 kHz most often.
