Hi all!

I’m looking for a decent pair of Bluetooth, comfy headphones, preferably noise cancelling.

I work in London and get the underground every day (approx. 30 mins each way), so would be using them then.
I also have a tonne of exams and get 1 day a week study leave, which I spend in the library with my headphones on all day.
I will be listening to a wide range of music on Spotify premium (320kbps) on my Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge.

I’m willing to spend around £300 on headphones so want to make sure I make the right choice!

After looking around, I like the look of the Bose QC35 and Sony MDR 1000X, but I really can’t decide between them. I would love to know people’s opinions and experiences with these headphones and what they would recommend for me!

What sounds better? Does the ANC hurt your ears after a while on either of these headphones? Are the ambient sound/quick attention features worthwhile on the Sony?

Any opinions on the headphones or other recommendations would be massively appreciated, thanks!

I would rather get a Fiio E18 and wired headphones (Soundmagic HP150?).

Why do you think that would be better? Don't really want to carry an amp around.

Guess i'm not big on wireless headphone, can't really explain why..

I think I would take Sony, over Bose.

One thing to be careful of with ANC phones is some peoples ears are sensitive to these and you can get a nausea from it. I was in the same boat as you and thought ANC would be really good for the commute. I originally had a pair of UE9000's which made me feel queasy and bought the QC25's thinking they had better ANC. Same problem with both and ended up selling both because I would feel like throwing up by the time I got to work :)

A decent set of closed can's can provide surprising good sound isolation or even on-ears. I'm currently using a pair of T51p's with a Dragonfly Black for daily duties with an S6.

Thanks for the feedback! I have seen reviews that mentioned that and that's one of my concerns.  I've seen some people have it with the QC35s and not the Sony's and vica verca, so I guess I would just have to see.

I'm also wondering if the extra features on the Sony would be genuinly helpful on a commute/walking around the city.

I recently bought the MDR-100X and have been happy with them so far. No headache or nausea issues for me. They definitely do get uncomfortable for me (hot/itchy ears) after about 2-3 hours, but then I just have to take them off for a couple of minutes.

I've found the ambient sound modes (especially voice mode) to be very helpful both in the office to hear people talking to me and walking down the street to hear cars coming.
