Here are the contenders!
The Generic eBay Case!
vs.
The PodsPlus Case!
The reason why I have both is because my PodsPlus case recently saved my iPod's life in a 4 foot drop onto hardwood. It's the only iPod i've had that hasn't broken from such a drop, so kudos to this case. Both cases has a neoprene interior, which is what I think saved my iPod. But the hard plastic screen got a few gouges in it so I ponied up 10 bucks and got the generic eBay case (after waiting a MONTH for shipment, fair warning!). Also, be careful of the payment - they try to charge you 10 EUROS. So make sure to switch that baby back to 10 US Dollars before sending cash, and you'll be cool, hehe. ALSO INDICATE ALL OVER THAT YOU WANT THE 30 GIG NOT THE 60!! Just in case folks!
So here are the pics!
OK, first HUGE difference - the PodsPlus has a hard plastic screen, and the eBay one has NO SCREEN AT ALL.
Rats, and I was planning to put some InvisibleShield over the new hard plastic screen to avoid gouges in the future. Oh well. Interestingly, since I have IS on my iPod already, the eBay one now gives me a clearer picture with a better protection of the screen area, lol. Lookit that application job, no bubbles at all!
Here is the second most important thing - say no to CRACK! The PodsPlus shows NO crack when the iPod is in there, even when it was first in there. But this case has neoprene that is a bit more slapdashed in there, and even though the ipod fits in there and the case closes shut and the clasp stays shut...the edges don't meet up. There's a crack. Again, the sides are still protected by BestSkinsEver this time, so no worries. But it looks ugly and random graham cracker crumbs can get in there. I'm hoping that over time the neoprene will compress and the thing will snap shut like it does when the iPod isn't in there. BTW the eBay case opens on the side, and the iPod sits halfway in, and the other half is covered by the top. For the PodsPlus it closes like a cellphone flip top, and the iPod rests all the way in the bottom part, with the top lid just covering the top.
This results in a PLUS for the eBay case - there is no need for the deep hole in the back of the PodsPlus. That hole is there so you can use your thumb and pop the iPod out - which is exposing a lot of the iPod - not a prob with my iPod since BSE is back there, but still. The eBay case doesn't need a popout, since after you open the case the iPod is now sticking halfway out and you can just pick it out. BTW see the cheesy plastic belt clip thing on the eBay case? Not Removable, unlike on the PodsPlus. Suckage. But I carry my case in a camera bag which can handle that plastic nub with no problem.
Finally we have the top view - the holes are bigger on the PodsPlus, so the eBay case is a nicer cut out - but as you see again, CRACK since the neoprene isn't as flush. The PodsPlus clasp on top looks a bit wimpy, but it does stay shut and opens easily.
CONCLUSION - uh, save money? Get the eBay case. Pay 2.5X more for the PodsPlus if you want a more finished product - but in the end of the day if you have a skin protecting the iPod anyhow, both will serve you well.
