Big ears, big head, looking for some good circumaurals

I've owned a decent range of headphones for someone who isn't a hardcore audiophile. I started of with some Sony MDRs in high school, went to Bose (gasp, I know) in college, migrated to Shure IEMs, some really good cheap UE SuperFi 5 IEMs and have been all over the place since then. I can't find a set of IEMs that I love and would prefer circumaurals for longer days of listening while I'm doing research.

The only problem is that I have big old ears and a big old head. Of the stuff conveniently available to me, I've tried Bose (comfortable, but not enough clamp and sound anemic), Beats (cups are just barely big enough to accomodate my ears, but start bothering my lobes after about 1.5hrs; don't need that kind of bass, don't like the pressure/whine generated by the noise cancellation), a midrange senn (don't remember the model; closed back, cups were too shallow) sony (pretty much every circumaural they've got out; I don't care for any of them), Samsung level (fit well enough, odd sound to them though, def not worth the price), the B&O crap they have at the Apple store, and the Master & Dynamics.

I really, really loved the M&Ds sound profile and they fit my ears well. The headband was too small though. It's a shame because I loved them.

I have eclectic taste. Singer/songwriter, jazz, classic rock, punk, underground hiphop, classical, johnny cash, and some harder stuff. Pretty much the only things I will not tolerate are pop, country from 1970 on, electronic/techno and bad world music.

I can't in good conscience spend more than about $400. I'd like something that fits better and sounds as close to the M&Ds as possible. I don't want a wide open set of cans, semi open at most.

I'm thinking of looking at M50x, M70x, MSR7, Fidelios or V modas (though they look like they'll be too small).

Any brilliant suggestions?

Bad news. All of AT models and V moda you listed might be a bit small for you. Hmm maybe something like Denons? Most closed back headphones comes in "portable" size, which might be bit small. It's hard to tell what size might fit you. I would recommend Shures(they have a fairly large earpad), but the headband is on the tighter side. I really don't know how big your head/ear is...

I also have a large head and I find the Shure SRH440 to be very comfortable using the 840 pads. I believe the 840 is the exact same construction and is still well within your budget. I have the ATH-M50x and find them just large enough but not as comfortable as the Shure's.
