Hi there. I am owner of Beyerdynamics DT 880 32 ohm. I would like to buy some suitable portable source of music. And now I am stuck there. I cannot decide what to buy, options Cowon C2 and Cowon J3. I really cannot decide which one to buy. Do you have any experience with these, if they can drive my Beyers with no problem or I will have to buy also some portable amp (Fiio E11 ?) Or would you recommend another mp3 player? Thanks for help; sorry for bad english.

Hi. Welcome to head-fi, sorry about your wallet :/

Both the Cowon C2 and J3  have the same driving power I believe. 29 mW into 16 ohms. Either one should be able to drive the Beyers just fine. Cowon players always have excellent SQ compared to most of the competition. However, you may later want to upgrade to desktop-grade gear because the DT880 is a headphone that is capable of more than a standard portable can put out.

Both of them will drive the Beyerdynamic just fine, no worries. It's just a matter of personal preference from there.

So are you sure there wont be lack of volume/sound quality? I dont want to pay 200€ for something that would play more quiet than my phone. In that case I would rather buy something less costly and buy portable amp. And another point, what do you think about Fiio E7? Is it good as a portable amp for this kind of hphones?

I have a Cowon J3. it's the best MP3 out there in my opinion! the amount of equalizers you have is amazing and you can make 4 of your own. And the volume of a cowon J3 is really high. At 35/40 your headphones will blow up lol, don't even try 40/40. Trust me, the cowon J3 is an amazing mp3 and you should buy one! :)

Hey folks, I have one more question. Dont you know if there is any built in DAC in J3? I m wondering if it is necessary to buy one (E7/E17), or if I should buy just amp. (E11 for ex.) Thanks.

Yes, as with pretty much any portable media player, it already has a built-in DAC.  As far as I'm aware, there is currently no way to get a line-out signal that bypasses the internal DAC like you can with an iPod, but the internal DAC is already superior to the iPod's.  I run my DT-770 Pro 250-ohm (and other cans as well) sometimes straight out of the headphone jack, and sometimes into my E11 first, depending upon how much portability I need.  Even without the E11 it sounds much better than out of an iPod headphone jack.

A Cowon will not need an external DAC, as the internal one is already of very high quality. An amp is all you need, and not even that with low-impedance, high-sensitivity cans.

The PA2V2, CMoyBB, and FiiO amps would be good budget options.

So I've been looking around for a good pair of high audio quality headphones with deep powerful bass (I generally listen to rock, metal, punk and rap) at a reasonable price range.. I seem to have narrowed my options down to two pairs: Beyerdynamic DJX-1 and Denon HP700. I was wondering if any of the more experienced audiophiles here had any suggestions on which might be better or even another pair of higher quality. From reviews/research I've read these two seem to be very equivalent in price, comfort, true musical sound and powerful bass. Does anyone have any experience or tips on either of these cans? Thanks a lot...

The M-Audio Q40 is among the best bassy headphones you can get just above $100. I'd go for that one if you can.
