haha! after that last arguement from the last thread you made another one. he'll be mad now.

i used the dt660 before, which should have very much similar design. first off the general consent about these headphones is that they are bright. to me, quite bright. the dt660 was very easy to drive, not even needing an amp to sound good out of my archos hd player, which has week output. their earcups are big, 4inches in diameter, and weights quite a bit as well. they are very comfortable to wear, just could be lighter. people concern about breaking the headband, but i just loosen the two screws on it and didnt get any problems.

i would not qualify them as portable, but they work sound good with portables, and i wear full size headphones in public anyway.

As from what I know, DT660 & DT860 are easy to drive and does not require an amp to drive them.

I think DT860 is a good choice if no amp is available

I heard the DT 860 twice at mini-meets (driven by a Corda HA-2 MKII) and found them to be horrible both times. There is a serious lower treble emphasis which makes any music sound cold. Even driven from a 120Ohm headphone out, I did not like this headphone at all. Slightly better but still sounds like a fridge. Further, this headphones lacks bass impact. I cannot recommend this headphone and strongly urge you to audition them first before ordering.
Despite the lower treble emphasis, the 860 did have some merits such as nice soundstaging and good detailing but listening to these headphone was so fatiguing that I didn't do a more in-depth evaluation of them.

However, if you really do like them, you can always order the Beyers from Meier-Audio, whose prices include interntional shipping. Headroom also has them but their price on the Beyer 860 is higher.

Regarding portability, in my opinion these headphone are too big for portable use. Maybe you can take a look at the Beyerdynamic 250-80, Ultrasone HFI 700 or Sennheiser HD 25-1 if you're looking for a portable headphone without the need for a dedicated headphone amp. The AKG 271 is also very good but needs proper amplification. Driven properly, the AKG 271 is an excellent headphone.

i find the beyer suitable for diff music. with rock where the recording dynamic is low he low treb is too sharp. but some music like jazz maybe it sound very correct. also warmer source could slightly makes it less bright. but still in the end i couldnt take it as a home ehadphone. but using with portables it didnt get the problem with brightness.
