Hey guy,

So it's been a solid 2 months of researching and I've bounced between countless headphones. Currently my main comparison is the Beyerdynamics DT 770 PRO (or M) 32 or 80 ohm headphones and the Plantronics Backbeat Pro. I realize that these are completely different headphones but I was wondering if I could get a comparison based on my criteria listed below. I can purchase both these cans at relatively the same price - $160-180 so pricing isn't  a factor for this comparison.

1. Soundstage - this is really important as I personally love really big and large sound that encompasses my ears and just vibrates through my head.

2. Sound quality - I like to nitpick sound, especially since I listen to older rock and heavy metal (Van Halen, GNR, Kiss, ACDC: Music from 1970-1990) including live and acoustic covers.

3. Bright, lively sound that isn't laid back or recessed - I like a relatively flat sound reproduction that doesn't seem like it's coming from behind my head or from a really far source. Although, I do not have a great negative towards slightly biased sound - as long as for my music type it would work only to enhance it. The sound reproduction in respects to visual positioning is pretty important for me.

These are my only real comparisons required for the headphones; style, comfort, portability, battery, etc, don't factor into my decision. Thanks in advance for any tips and responses, you've made an entry level audiophile really happy! :)

You're gonna love DT770 for your genres preference. M version is for musicians. If you don't have an amp go 32 ohm. 80 ohm has more bass but needs amp. Either way I think you will like them.

I don't know the others but I made a quick search and the first review that I came across described them as a cheaper alternative for Beats and Bose.... I wouldn't go with these based on that alone.

I have the beyer dt770 80ohm version and find the noise isolation to be very good. I don't have much to compare to, but I couldn't wear them and have a conversation even with no music playing. I can drive them from my phone, but as said above, it isn't ideal and an amp is preferable.

I mostly listen to rock and find them very well suited. I cant comment in a comparative way about soundstage etc. (I'm more than content FWIW), but you may find that poor / crude recordings (or mastering?) are brought to your attention if like me these will be your first pair of decent cans.

Without having to hear the plantronics, the DTs would DESTROY them like there is no tomorrow.
Plantronics have nothing known for "good audio", just for marketingfull gaming crap. Plus its Wireless (which means, you can take 30-50% of the Price away to get his wired-price. You always pay ALOT just for wireless.).
I dont see any possibility, the plantronics could even compete with the Beyerdynamic.

This also works if you inserd ANY "gaming headset" on the whole market in place of the plantronics. DT 770 > any gamer headset.
Even if soundquality comes close, there WILL be a difference in build quality. And that will not be a small one.

The Plantronics sound very good. Granted that currently Bluetooth sets do not match up to corded but they are excellent. The comment about build quality is way off base. The build quality of the BB Pro is every bit as good as a similarly priced cabled set, if not better. Not really fair to make comments like this if you've never heard them or even seen them.
