I've decided to pick up either the DT 770 or the DT 770 Pro. On these boards I see most people referring to the DT 770 Pro. It is to my understanding that the DT 770 Pro feels a lot less comfortable with a 3.5 N clamping force on the head, versus the 2.8 N clamping force from the regular DT 770. Is there something that I am missing? I understand that both versions have the exact same hardware. They have the same drivers and should be identical except for the headband, where the DT 770 Pro, again, has more clamping force. Now I hear rumors that the DT 770 Pro is less bassy.

Can we lay these rumors to rest? I've already PMed Lini who seems to be the Beyerdynamic guru around here. He's not yet replied.

So in a final attempt to weed out these speculations, I'd ask for anyone with experience with either of these two cans to post with any incite on them, good or bad.

It should be noted that I picked the DT 770 (Pro or regular I have not yet decided) for gaming almost exclusively. It should also be noted that for the threads sake I am only talking about the 250 Ohm versions of each. I like bass so I picked these. Call me a basshead...and I also hear that the DT 770whatever play beautiful highs and mids if driven correctly. Anyways, for gaming these are the way to go from having asked several people on several forums other than here.

Hardware for reference would be a PPA (identical in terms of hardware to the Headsave PPA, except custom built from another guy for 130 bucks cheaper) and a Creative Labs Audigy 2 ZS.

I may be way off here but I thought the only differences in the phones is that the non-pro version is for larger heads.(more comfort) Sonicly I thought they were the same.

Jan Meier said they sounded exactly the same. For comfort reasons, I'd go with the regular one. The clamping force was not a problem with the Pro, but it only just fit on my not exactly huge head without taking off the leather bit on the headband.

but I think they more than make up for it with their dynamics, and ability to bring emotion to the music.

That's what I've got to say. These are some damn fun cans, and they are very comfortable indeed. The clamping force is actually a good thing in my case, since the cans will stay on my head, even when headbanging pretty hard, a feat no other can I've used can duplicate, save the HD-590, which also grabs your head pretty good. The 770 does grab your head, but the pads are so big and soft that it doesn't put too much pressure on any one part. The force on your head is much less than the HD280, by conparison.

Can anyone suggest a place where I can buy the 'regular' DT 770's? BTW, I am in the US and so far the only place I found them at is from Jan Meier for $200. And, thanks for all the welcome

Yeah, I was referring to the non-pro DT 770. So Jan Meier it is, I guess.
