1. Buy an iPod. Buy a Car MP3 player that plays MP3 CD's.
or
2. Buy an iPod that plugs into the car stereo? (does that exist?)
or
3. Something else?

I haven't looked into this much at all yet, except for the occasional glance at an MP3 player review. I probably have about 25 Gigs of music I'd like to pick from on the go. I know some Car stereos can play MP3's burned on CD's. I know there exist Hard Drive MP3 players (iPod). Is there a mix? A good way to plug your iPod or whatever right into the car and get good sound?

Other options: Are there ways to have your music at home, and transmit your music to your car or player or whatever, or is that just a dream I had?

If you're getting a new car player get one with an aux input jack, that way you can hook up any mp3 player you want.
Or there are things called FM modulators that hook up inline on the antenna input. The cassette adapters are pretty noisy in my experience.

I second the recomendation for aux inputs....it will provide the cleanest signal to your amp...in regards to cassette adapters, they usually are not too bad....normally the real problem lies in the fact that the car's casette deck sucks major ass...but even with a good tape deck...you can't beat aux inputs

I recently installed Sirius Satellite radio through aux in my radio. If I want to use my ipod in car I can disconnect the line from satellite receiver and connect to ipod. There is no comparison using an fm modulator or cassette adapter. The cost between the Blitz cable and installation was $110.00. Add a Sik imp and the sound is even better.

Should I go with iPod?

There may already be some threads on comparisons between all the MP3 players, but I'm not sure where to get a good overview -- or especially know one for this situation. I'd like to keep it around $300 if possible, maybe up to $400 if necessary. I pretty much like what I see in the iPod, I'm just not sure about features and price compared to other offerings.
