Best JRPGS with great OST's

I'll throw another +1 for Xenoblade out. The music in that game is fantastic.

Artistically, the OST is indeed great. However, I think it's really not that well mastered. It sounds somewhat loud and edgy to me. FLACs straight from CD.

I really recommend the Xenosaga OST, especially episode 3. "Godsibb" just sounds amazing with proper audio gear.

The JRPGs with the best OST's come from Falcom, hands down. Their in-house music production is done by the Falcom Sound Team JDK and they even have a JDK Band which does live performances (yes... video game music played live in concert) and IMO are quite a talented group.

Some prime examples of Falcom audio excellence..

Their Ys series of games also has incredible music. Here is a selection of songs played by one of Falcom's lead guitar player. To illustrate how groundbreaking this company's music team has been, the first song played is from the TurboGrafx-CD game Ys: Book I & II... released in 1990!! They had music in games like this back when the competition still used cartridges.

Most youtube videos are hampered by poor recording by the user or youtube's compression so some sound better than others. This is my attempt to grab the best quality I could directly from the game itself. This song is called Valestein Castle and comes from YS: Oath in Felghana on PC. Even then it sounded much better on my PC than after youtube messed with it. https://youtu.be/3npMWHzVVqU

I picked up the three Etrian Odyssey games released for the 3DS, damn I'm loving these!
Their OSTs rule, too.

I see some mentions of Nier: Automata, but why hasn't anybody mentioned the original NieR? It's soundtrack is a masterpiece, and it's actually the thing that convinced me to get the game.

The recent release of Falcom's latest in the Ys series, Ys VIII: The Lacramosa of Dana, they have reaffirmed what i said a few years back that Falcom has the best OST's in gaming.

Ys series is well known for its amazing heavy metal sound going back to Ys: Book I & II on Turbografx CD-rom (which i might add was the first RPG ever released on CD-Rom, had animated cutscenes, a true Redbook OST, and real voice acting. Though Turbografx CD never became popular in the US, this game was by far the most groundbreaking RPG made)

...which is why when i heard the intro to this latest game, i was kind of shocked (not in a bad way).

Intro:

Ok... so that wasn't what i was expecting. Then came the first boss fight....

1st Boss:

YESSS!! Now that's what i'm talking about! Moar!

Here is a bit of "field music", just the basic stuff while you're out exploring.

and then... you find...

*sniff*... yeah, the game gets a bit emotional. So ill finish with something more upbeat.
