Interested in getting a pair, but there are several to choose from between this narrow price range and I'd just like to know what you'd all consider best between them? I'd rather not just assume the most expensive if there's barely no difference between say the AD500's and the AD700's.

Any help appreciated.

Is there a reason why you're interested primarily in AT? At makes great high end cans but their lower end models have never reaaly done much for me, the A500 was far too muddy and bloated in terms of bass, the AD700s were far too flat in terms of bass, and the A900s were far too recessed in terms of mids. In this price range the Sennheiser Hd555s are good all rounders and serve well as gaming/DVD cans as well as music cans. The Grado SR60s are also great cans for rockin' out to, and the Sennheiser HD580s are great for relaxing to. It really depends though, on what kind of music you're listening to, what kind of amp/source etc.

Well I'm drawn to AT mainly because of the overall design of them. Very sleek. How about the ATH-ES7's? Where can I even find them online?

Also are there any other "vintage looking" headphones (gradoish) that aren't grado that are good? I hate putting just as much importance in the look as the sound but I can't help it.

Almost the entire At line is available at Audio Cubes, a link is at the top of the page. The HD595s are pretty slick looking headphones as are the new Beyers. The Grados are the only vintage headphones I know of though.

We need some Audio-Technicheads in here.

I haven't tried them out so I can't say for myself, but this review says some pretty good things about the ES5. Check them out at AudioCubes when they're back online. I was gonna check the price for you but AudioCubes is down ATM.

Here

Some people might not like this advice, but IMO after about the $40 mark (excluding a few here or there) every headphone should sound good. If you really want to try out these ES7s and they'll make you very happy because they look so cool then go for it. I'm positive a large part of people's enjoyment of expensive headphones is some kind of placebo effect, all these $1000 headphones can't sound that much better than anything $200-$500 but people will tell you they do.. but that's probably because they love their headphone and are very happy with it. If really do want these and if you have the money then get them, I wouldn't suggest that crazy approach if they were a lot more than $100 though.

Now that's a bitch of a choice huh? The cool shiny ES7 or the futurustic looking EC7?

You can bet the ES7s sound better though because they're actually headphones.

Holy Web site redesign, Batman! AudioCubes's new site is pretty slick!

I like the ES5, it has quite the nice sound despite its small drivers. There is no comparison between it and the FC7. It eats it for breakfast!
