I'm thinking a U-cable is where the cable from the right headphone goes to the left and then it leads to the player. (*Essentially*)
Like a Y-cable, but one is short and one is long, allowing you to pass one cable behind your head and have the main cable run down the other side. Instead of in front of you.
I think...

I read this post last night and was gonna recomend the DT770s, but then I saw earphones..........
But yeah, the DT770s are fun headphones, it's much like having a stereo system with the bass turned up strapped to your head. Makes for a very speakerlike sound. I like it myself. And, it's boomy when it needs to be, and tight when it to be. Tight enough for me anyway.
Edit: even with the reduced ohmn version, you still need a good amp to drive them. Using the IMP-400 headphone out (I tried it just for the hell of it), they are VERY lacking down low, the music sounds dry and the sound stage is this ][ wide. My Onkyo TX-SVS15PROII drives them well.

Just to confirm, when I said U-split, I did mean the behind-the-neck type cables.
The koss KSC-35 look to be clip-on headphones (from the one pic I managed to find with a quick google search)
Any other suggestions of earphones?
Thanks

Omar,
Have you tried the Radio Shack foamies with your MX500's? If not, spend $2 and see if they improve the bass enough for you.

I've seen crappy earbuds with that design. I use the MX400 as Y, with the cord in front and coming up into my ears in the behind-the-ear loop apporach. A much more secure fit imo.

Thanks for the suggestion. I'm located in the UK, but I managed to get some good foamies from HMV, that improved the bass somewhat, but still not super.
I was listening to my iHP-120 last night, and I can't believe it.... I was listening using the stock headphones that come with it, and OMG, the bass was not bad at all... I don't know why I didn't notice this before, I think it's because I assumed they were the same as the MX300's that came with the imp-550.
Ok, the overall sound quality is not superb, but the bass has a really good kick to it (better than the MX500's with the same HMV foamies and a more comfortable fit), plus it has three bonuses: 1. It is a short cord version, thus working well with the remote
2. It should be relatively cheap
3. It's a behind-the-neck style cord
So basically almost exactly what I've been looking for has been right under my nose! Ok, so it's not much to look at and it's probably not going to be audiophile quality, but for day-to-day use when I'm out and about, it should do the job very well.
I'm going to try and get my hands on a spare set from the retailer I purchased the iHP from.
Thanks again for all the suggestions.

I have those wrap around headphones also. They came with my IMP-400. The bass is loud, but it lacks depth and percision.

Well, these aren't wrap-around headphones, they're proper earphones.
The imp-550 came with MX300's, and although these ones look very similar, I think they're made by a company called Cresyn.
I'm trying to get hold of a spare set, because now that I've found a set of earphones that suit my needs, I don't want to have a problem getting hold of replacements later.
