Morning all

I've got a pair of unopened B&O Portals, unopened as I can't decide or find enough evidence to say whether they are a proper pair of B&O phones with a dollop of Xbox tech thrown in, or too much of a sonic compromise if you're not really a gamer.

I still travel a fair amount, so an IEM like Sony's 1000XM4 or AAPP2 has been an easy choice. But I want to go back to the fuller sound of full phones, with ANC, and suitable for playing in mono in one earpad.

So this is a two-part question:

1. Are the portals for their price for "proper" set of headphones, or is it better to return them for something more musical eg B&W PX8 or B&O Beoplay HX? I am brand agnostic as they all have their vices and virtues, unless they're "Celeb" endorsed! Focals would be an option if they weren't so in your face in the looks department.
2. Is the better option to keep the Portals, and spend some cash on a decent portable DAC, one which works with an iPhone and Mac? I use Tidal, so understand the benefits of a good streaming service.

Thanks
