Hi Guys,

I'm new here, so bear with me as this is my first post (have been a reader for a while though). I'm not an audiofile so to speak, but certainly interested in good sound and still have a bit of gear to get started.

Anyway, I've been trying to find a solution for my current setup. I've been googling and searching threads for a similar setup but haven't had any luck. At the moment, my gear at this desk is:

- A&H Xone 62 Mixer
- Running in to a pair of Yamaha HS80s
- Logitech Bluetooth adapter running in to a line in the mixer
- I also have an airport extreme, but don't see it as a wireless solution because of the audio lag I get when streaming (this is why I'm using the Bluetooth instead)

Now I know that Bluetooth audio quality leaves a lot to be desired, but it looks like it's the only wireless option because of the above issue.

SO, I wanted to pack away my mixer. I'm no longer recording DJ sets, so I don't need a big mixer on my desk just for the sake of a volume control and simple interface. So I just ordered an Audioengine D1 to replace the mixer. Obviously I want the minimal amount of gear on my desk as possible.

Here is my issue. It seems the only wireless signal I can run in to the D1, is from the Airport Express (with a toslink). I wanted to hook up the Logitech Bluetooth adapter to it, but the adapter only has RCA & 3/4 line out (pretty sure the 3/4 won't be optical). So that's not an option right? Or is there something I can use to adapt it?

I've looked everywhere for ways to make the D1 Bluetooth, but can't seem to work it out. Is there a USB Bluetooth stick I can plug in to the optical-in on the D1? Does that exist? I know Audioengine has the B1, but that's out of my price range. It also doesn't have a headphone port or volume control, which is a bit of a pain. I'd still like the option of linking my laptop directly and using headphones with the D1 every now and then.

The ideal setup would have:

- Headphone port
- Volume control
- RCA out to speakers
- Bluetooth
- Direct input from laptop

(even if that mean an extra device in between somewhere)

Any ideas on how I can make this all work? Let me know if I've not been clear enough. I hope maybe this thread can help some others that are looking for a similar solution.

Thanks!

Is this the Bluetooth adapter you're talking about? It looks like it'd work as a remote access point for plugging in speakers, but since there's no volume control that I can see, it wouldn't be a solution for headphones as I see it.

The D1 would work fine for the speakers, as well as a stationary headphone jack. You could use that when you're at the desk and stationary. If you need Bluetooth from the computer to a set of headphones, have you considered the Noble BTS? I use one around the office, and it's cool in that it will Bluetooth any headphone with a 3.5mm plug. I can play audio from my Mac or my iPhone to it without issue, and get a decent range.

Yep, that's the one! Just realised I didn't mention the model name. My bad. It's not bad for the price, but I'd be happy to upgrade. It doesn't have very good reception to honest. I'm pretty much always 3 metres away, somewhere in the room. Sometimes it's good, other times it sounds like it's making popcorn.

I'm not in need of bluetooth headphones. My main concern is that I want to stream bluetooth from my laptop on the sofa (or wherever), to the DAC. I'm guessing I might need to sell the Logitech one and get something with an optical out (so I can plug it in to the DAC).

I was thinking to look in to the bose but they don't sell it here in Europe from what I can see. So today I looked into some other ones that have the same kind of specs. A few looked ok, but the reviews were up and down. The Philips AEA2700/12 seems like it could be an option. It's got an optical out, which I could run to the DAC, and then run the DAC to the speakers...  Hmmmmm.... Pity it's so ugly!
