I'm looking forward to buy the Audio-Technica ATH-M50xDG LIMITED EDITION Professional Studio Monitor Headphones, as people talk great things about the M50x series, anyone know if ATH will come up with an update of this series anytime soon, or it's safe to go with the M50x? I just don't want to buy it today and a few months later they launch a better version. I know there is the M70x, but I think the price isn't worth it as I don't see many great reviews about it as the other.

Any other great suggestion below $200 are acceptable.

Generally Monster Addidas, Beats Studio, Sony100aap are very good for these genres music with loud volume.

I can't believe someone is suggesting a Beats headphones in this forum 0.o

No matter what, I'm not spending a single dime on these cheap plastic things dude, they are overpriced crap. '-'

Thanks, but new ones are selling for $250 nowadays, and I'm not a fun of used products :S

I forgot to mention that the M50x sounded surprisingly better with jazz than some other genres, probably because jazz doesn't have as much heavy bass, so the added bass of the M50x isn't as noticeable. Boosted bass isn't as much of a problem with electronic music either, for various reasons. It's just that the M50x's bass quality isn't very good, IMO. But of course, you can always tweak the sound via EQ, and increasing or decreasing the bass is one of the easiest things to do. Oh, and if you find this relevant, I owned one M50x and borrowed another one for awhile, so I've technically heard two of them.

There are other below $200 with better bass quality? I tend to hear jazz, electronic, dubstep, drum & bass, so a good bass is somewhat important.

And looking for reviews on the web for the M50xDG I found this on a Youtube comment:

"It's been just over a year that I've bought this limited edition blue headphones. Only I have used these and that too ultra delicately. I can't afford one anytime soon. I need to know if someone shares the same problem I've experienced with these. My problem isn't with the audio drivers. It's with the pleather (leather like material but not leather) parts on the headphone. The brown pleather parts found on the headphone gradually forms crease lines, cracks & finally peels off in small bits. I guess it's just a matter of time for all of it to powder away.

At first it was seen on the right ear pad, then on the inner part of the headband. The headband part get's worse. Links to Images. Guys beware because I emailed the company and have found no response whatsoever. AT's associate in India have promised me ear pad replacements. But they say they can't do anything about the headbands and that I should glue it. And just how does that work?!!! Now I wonder, Is this why I bought the limited edition for? If anyone can help, it will be on time and I'd truly appreciate it.

In short I'm disappointed! :("

THAT'S EXACTLY WHAT I DON'T WANT, and is currently happening to my Steelseries H Wireless 7.1 (not so audiophile, I know...) even though I treat it great. That's a big "NO NO" for the M50x as those "cheap fake leather" are the worst! :(

The STAX SR-30 is on a whole 'nother level of quality, and it's sometimes available (with its specialized amplification) for under $100. Not comfortable at all, though, and it's open-back, distorts at high volume (probably since it's an electret and not a conventional electrostat), and only available used, since it's from the 1980s. There are many other open-back headphones under $200 with better bass quality than the M50x.

It's also a good idea to experiment with EQ to tweak the sound of any headphone.

On the positive side, you can always get aftermarket pads, headband covers, etc.

Anyway, since you can easily return it, you might as well try out the M50x to see how you feel about it.

That's the thing, I can't return easily. Headphones and audio related stuff are ridiculously expensive on my country, so I buy them when I travel :p

ATH has international warranty so that's a good point for them. I'll be looking for other headphones here on the forum that may be better than M50x
