I noticed that both of these headphones are listed on amazon for ~110 dollars and I was wondering what the difference in quality was?

Amazon.com: Customer Reviews: Audio Technica ATH-PRO700 SV Professional Monitor Headphones

Amazon.com: Closed-back dynamic audiophile headphones, 53 mm drivers with neodymium magnet systems, 3.5 mm connector w/ 1/4" adapter: Electronics

The drivers are the same size 53mm, design looks a bit difference. Being that one has the name "pro" in it suggest there is something a bit better about them, but is that the case?

I know the a700s have been reviewed, but does anyone know the differences between those and these pro700s, at the same price?

the pro700 is a dj type headphone, folds up, emphasizes mid bass, etc. it is better sounding than any other dj type headphone i've heard, but it is not a flat response audiophile headphone. not comfortable at all!
the a700 has a smile shaped eq curve, with tinkly highs, slightly recessed mids. bass not very strong unless amped and eq'd. comfortable

they sound nothing alike. i have'nt had the ath-m50 yet (i will soon), but it seems to be well loved around here. if you want a fold up design headphone, the m50 seems to be the best for $100 so far.

One of the reviews on the a700 on amazon said they sounded nicer than the m50s. Was looking at those too but that shifted me towards the a700s. Hard to get people who have sampled all the contenders though to get a more balanced sample of perspectives. Be nice to know how these compare to the denon 1000s too.

I do not really care if the design is fold up or not as I intend to use them at home on my computer, and they will not be amped, I will run them directly out of my xonar dx stereo out,

Newegg.com - ASUS Xonar DX 7.1 Channels PCI Express Interface Sound Card - Sound Cards

though that is a pretty good source it is not an "amped" source as far as I can tell. But then at 36 ohms one would think they would not need to be amped to get the right quality...

the xonar dx is pretty weak in the power department-i've had one-tho sweet sounding for sure
both of those headphones are ez to drive but resond well to an amp, especially the a700 if u want any bass.
the d1000 has a small tight semi-balanced sound, the pro700 is a much larger sound, and the a700 is larger still
