After trying just about everything out there (Apple HiFi, Bose Sounddock, Klipsch iGroove etc.) I have finally purchased what is by miles the best hi-fi system for my iPod - the Fatman iTube (http://www.fat-man.co.uk/docs/product/itube_1.htm).

It isn't cheap but the sound is absolutely amazing, it looks stunning and the tube glow is something I personally love. I bought the kit with the piano black speakers. The sound is rich, detailed and the soundstage is excellent, with great depth and instrument placement around my head.

If you are looking for a way to play all your iPod tunes at home through speakers (and the budget will stretch) I thoroughly recommend this unit. I believe that TTVJ sells a version from Sonic Impact (http://www.tube-pod.com/) and there is also a version from Vuum Audio (http://www.vuumaudio.com/products.htm). As I am in the UK, and so are Fatman, I bought their unit.

Or you could say the Dared looks like the Fatman looks like the Vuum.

It is a generic design that is developed by each company to their own specs. I suspect you won't see the Fatman 182, 252 or 402 amps on the dared site. Fatman are part of TL Audio who make tube-based guitar amps amongst other things.

None of these companies is copying the other. They just take the generic design and produce their own versions.

Yes, they too make a product on that design. I did mention SI in my original post.

Oops, I totally didn't see that you mentioned them and TTVJ... even though I specifically reread that part of your post twice to see if you did

I have to say that I'm a huge fan, too, having used the Fatman iTube since before Christmas.

They now have a revamped version, in black, with 25 watts per channel, and I'm looking forward to auditioning it.

i really dont understand what all the fuss is about the fatman. especially for driving headphones too. i listened to one of these a couple of months ago with a pair of shure e5c and e500. i thought that the headphone out sounded worse than the headout of a nano. muffled slobby bass and severely rolled of treble. Was the one i listened to faulty? i just dont understand where the glowing reviews are coming from!

are you somehow affiliated w/ fatman or something sclamb? or just well informed with their company?

anyways from a pure aesthetic opinion, their fatman logo/iTube spatter is really a turn off.. from a pure aesthetic approach. I'm sure it sounds heavenly tho
