The Astro Mixamp is a small headphone amp capable of decoding surround sound tracks so that they can be played back on standard headphones.

Does anyone have any experience with this device? I'm curious how it compares in performance against a standard AV receiver (such as a Yamaha RX). Any impressions on this (in terms of surround sound quality).

If you had headphone that are 250-Ohm or higher, the Yamaha might make a better choice.
Not sure on the surround sound differences.
