My current setup is an astro mixamp + sennheiser g4me one. While it sounds great I have to turn the volume knob all the way up to get a good listening experience. I know that adding an external amp will help with volume levels but will it also help the quality of the audio in anyway?

It probably won't increase the audio quality, but it will increase the volume like you said.
