I personally like them for techno/trance because of the tight punchy bass, but there are better cans for techno types of music. The only downside is that the HD600's can be a little too laid back, and sometimes that type of sound doesn't mold well with techno music. The V6 and Audio Technicas have a more forward sound, which is more ideal for trance music.

I think they are excellent phones for techno/trance, but it depends on your amp. I'm a bit spoiled in that area -- I have an RKV. But the Radii HAP-02 was pretty damfine, too.
I had a similar dilemma myself. I opted for the DT931's over the 600's, as I'd heard the 600's were laid back, and, in comparison to the 931's, sounded a bit ploddy.
I cant say that I'm disappointed by my decision, although perhaps if you like listening loud, they might get a little tiring, I think the 931's sound best at moderate volumes. The 600's might be better for louder volumes, but I dont know, as I've not heard one.
I think they're great. Lately been listening to them with tubes more than SS. 80% of what I listen to is trance and other kinds of electronica. They share time with the CD-3000.
hd600, imo, can be used as techno/trance, but not very good for that purpose.
I would recommend dt770pro instead. The bass is overwhelming. Just what you need for trance/techno
