Apple products vs. Sansa products

Sansa's products are definately warmer than apples's. I also found the Sansa's to reveal a lot more detail than apple's. Maybe it's because I am biased against apple and don't care for their overpriced, easy to use products. I always have and will be a windows guy and that holds true for phones and mp3 players too. I just don't care for their products.

I am also not a huge fan of apple, I love my android phones and dont really care for mac... but I felt the Ipod was really worth it. Plus I love having my Ipod dock which I can set my Ipod onto and listen to music without any cords or anything, and it charges it as well. You can get some pretty good sounding Ipod docks. Im just trying to say don't be biased and not get something because of the brand, if you like all the brands I think you will be much happier and getting
The best of both worlds. Also, you do not have to overpay.... I got my Ipod used and nothing is wrong with it and it was almost the same price I paid for my sansa.

Sound is a preference thing. There are people who prefer ipod video, ipod classic, ipod touch, cowon, sansa or whatever. Just go with what you like.

But, to me portable gear isn't just about the sound it has a lot to do with the form factor, the accessibility to music, battery life and of course GB's (especially if you play lossless). Although I have not tried many DAP's, the ipod video is almost perfect for my taste. The sound is great for my music when paired with my iem's. The click wheel has been a brilliant design by Apple and I don't see anything can beat it for accessibility to music, especially for sound volume adjustment. Then here is the battery and storage: you can take total control of both by upgrading them by yourself. The ipod video upgraded to 240GB HDD is the only DAP with that storage to this date I believe, and that 240GB HDD costs only $100. Then the rockbox my life now depends on.

X2. When listening in a truly portable mod such as a train commute, walking, hiking, jogging, riding in a car pool, etc, I think things *other* than SQ are going to be what is valued most. 40+ hours of battery, the ability to change volume easily, a nice interface, no "lockups", switching songs/albums. fast forward, etc are what will help you like (or hate) a DAP more than SQ. Not that SQ isn't important, it sure is, but a lot of the subtle sonic nuances are missed when distracted by life when you're in "portable mode."
