Hi, about how many songs can I have in an apple 32gb ipod touch whiling downloading songs with apple lossless?
apple site says it can store around 7000 songs with 128 aac format. How many songs can i get using apple lossless?

Several variables come into play.
* The length of the songs
* The bitrate of the songs - aka compressibility.

But lets assume the songs have an average length of 4 minutes and an average bitrate of 850 kbps.
850 kbps / 8 = 106 kBps x 240 seconds = 25440 kB / 1024 = 24.85 MB per song
32 GB x 1024 = 32768 MB / 24.85 MB = 1318 songs

With 4 minute long songs:
7000 songs with 128 kbps =
3500 songs with 256 kbps =
1054 songs with 850 kbps =
896 songs with 1000 kbps (about the average of my lossless flac collection)

You find the reason for this if you take a look at the specs: "1GB = 1 billion bytes; actual formatted capacity less."

If you keep your files in Lossless, ipod can if you choose shrink the file to 128 kbps when you sync to your ipod.

There is no need to keep two versions.
