anyone still buying the iPod Mini?

I thought of getting a Mini, but went with a regular 20GB instead. After all, I would have had to transfer songs all too often with the Mini, unless I choose to use an AAC bitrate of less than 48kbps. And I definitely found anything AAC of less than 128kbps completely unacceptable in sound quality even for portable use. Thus, to be on the safe side I chose to use 256kbps AAC on most of my iPod files.

among us head-fi'ers we've almost completely switched to the micro(a few carbon people out there too) but outside in the real world (hissssss) they're still eating up the mini's like a fat kid with krispy kremes

The iPod mini (in person) is MUCH smaller and lighter than the reg. iPod. It's also more durable...the (anodized?) surface resists scratches better than the polished metal/clear plastic iPod and the screen is slightly recessed so it's much harder to scrape up or crack. I'd argue that this makes the mini much more portable than the regular-sized iPod. I've been borrowing my brother's iPod but don't carry it everywhere for fear of scratching it and simply because it's slightly too big and heavy. When I get my mini I won't have to worry about this.

As far as audio quality, my impression is that it's the same as the regular iPod...very good. I plan to use lossless/320 bit-rate aac with it...which allows for 250-350 songs...more than enough for day to day use if you use smart playlists, keep your music well-organized, etc. I've been using a playlist lately limited to this size to see if I can "stand" it, and I've had no problems. In a way it forces me to pick the best songs so they're more readily available, but at the same time whenever I think of an obscure song I want to listen to it happens to be there.

I'm waiting for an update before I get mine, though. It's rare Apple takes so long to change at least something in a product. My guess is this will happen within the next 2 months. I definitely wouldn't mind another gig or two.

Considering you already have an Apple product (Your Powerbook), I would suggest you buy the Er-4P's and get a pink mini for your girlfriend.

Hmmm, Etys and a mini.... sounds like it could be a darned good combo.... might even make me ditch the D-EJ925 + Go-Vibe + HD580 combo.... were it not for the short battery life of the mini. But then again, it will be for around the house use, so would 6-8 hours really be too short for me?

why not get the zen micro. you can even both have the colors you wanted in the first place. and it solves your battery life problem with about 10-12 hours and a REMOVABLE battery. its a fantastic little player, check out some other threads about it, i think you'll like it.

There is a mini for sale by Agent69. He had them listed with MS-2's that I bought.
