It just doesn't make to plug a great headphone such as HD600/HD650 into crappy amp such as E3.
I have the E3, and I don't use it with any of my phones. May be I'd use it with my HD215 if my mood strikes, but that hasn't happen after my curiosity stage passed.
I've tried an e5 with HD580. It sort of did the job but it messes with stereo imaging. No problems in terms of getting a decent volume out of them but I'm certain it messes with stereo imaging.
Works quite well if you're listening to something that would benefit from a little crossfeed. If you're listening to anything with already good stereo imaging, forget it.
Good to know....
With my triplefi's and live wires work decently.
Other then that been hit or miss.
Looking to get a penguinamp caffeine when they are back in stock.
IMHO the Fiios of the world are for IEM's and portable cans only. Amping Sennheiser HD650's with a Fioo is like trying to move a tractor trailer with a car. It may get it moving, very slowly, and not the best use of power to weight ratio.
Well, I've tried this before just for fun, when I got my e5. I wouldn't recommend the combo to anyone. A mini^3 would done a better job, but Id still recommend a desktop amp for the HD650.
Same result for the K701. As for the RS-1, gave it enough volume boost to sound ok. But still I wouldn't really recommend the combo.
I found the E5 ok with the er4s (bass boost on), and the porta pro (bass boost off)
I'm really starting to dislike my E5, it tends to make the sound bass heavy and I'm begining to think it's either rolling off the highs or just making everything above the lows sound like junk. This is on my Q40s and portapros, but I'd hate to see what'd it do to HD650s.
