Any way to have different equalizers for both right & left channels?

I suffer from moderate hearing loss in both ears. The problem is that my left ear suffers at high frequencies while the right ear suffers at low frequencies.

I am looking for a software/pc base equalizer setup that will allow me to adjust different levels for both the left and right channels when listening to headphones.

If I can get over this hurdle, I will then likely upgrade to a DAC and a pretty decent pair of headphones.
Right now, I can't justify those upgrades if I have no way to adjust my source to compensate for my hearing issues.

Anyone have any ideas/thoughts/suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

you might look at a conventional hardware EQ device, to sit between your source and amplification?

I'm sure something for software exists, nothing is coming to mind though

As a last resort, I will likely buy hardware to achieve my goal of dual-channel equalization.

However, my desk is already a bit crowded, and was hoping to avoid that type of set up.

I just saw that winamp has a plug-in at
Shibatch equalizer plugin - Customize Winamp Media Player that claims to do this.
I've installed the plug-in, but can't seem to figure out how to get the multi-channel setup to show as an option.

Anyone have any other ideas for the hearing challenged?

I'd say check out some of the media player apps at oldversion.com:

Some of them may come with dual channel EQ.

On the rare occasion that I need some EQ adjustment, I use a Realistic 10 band stereo EQ that I got at a yard sale.

Can you specify which software player you are using. Your problem is pretty common and almost all directX or VST eq plugins provide per channel adjustment.

I am using the convolver plugin for room correction that is very specific and amazingly different for left and right speaker.

You might find the Voxengo Marvel GEQ useful.  It is free, and you can download it in various formats (AU, VST, Mac, Windows).  You can set different curves for left and right (Channels A and B), and you can  save your settings.  You can move sliders individually and save their positions, or even draw curves with a mouse or trackpad.
 
You'll need a music player that can use AU or VST plugins, of course.  
 
It also comes with factory presets that you can modify, copy and paste, rename, etc.  There is a user manual on the Voxengo site that you can download for general use of all of their plugins, and another manual specific to the Marvel GEQ.
 
I've used this, and like it a lot.  And the price is right.

The Graphic Equalizer in Foobar can handle this easily. Just change the Mode to Stereo and then you can pick the Left and Right channels to do the adjustments separately.
