One thing I don't see is a Line-Out, other than that it seems to be a decent CD/mp3 player.

I have that unit. It has no line-out. And its headphone-out (which is its only audio output jack) can barely drive the good-sounding portable headphones without clipping. What's more, that same headphone-out is ill-suited for use as a line-out: Despite it measuring flat in frequency response, it sounds flat and lifeless when used with a dedicated headphone amp because it cannot be set high enough to drive such an amp without clipping. It's a decent unit - but only if you use it with efficient portable headphones without an amp.

Thanks for your review/opinion. I was looking for a CD & mp3 player for my sister to use. You think KSC75's or JVC HAFX33 (Marshmallows) be fine with it?

KSC-75s are kinda high impedance compared to most portable headphones, and if the DNE-300 really struggles so much to drive headphones, it might have some problems with them.

You might want to look into the DNE-330. People here generally consider it to be one of the better cheap PCDPs currently in production, and it has a fairly beefy 15 mW/channel output power that should be able to handle most portable headphones just fine. I have one, and I like it.

I have a iRiver IFP-395T, the KSC75's are slightly quiet with it, but still decent sounding. I am not sure how much mW's the IFP-395T has.

edit: IFP-395T Specs

STEREO (L+R)
20Hz ~ 20KHz
12mW(L) + 12mW(R) : (16 O) at Max. Volume
90dB (MP3);A Weighted

dang only 12mW @ 16Ω

The D-NE300 is rated at only 5mW @ 16Ω (except in Europe, where it is rated at an even lower 2mW @ 16Ω).

SHEESH!! only 5mW's!!

I think I can get another iRiver IFP-395T for what I could pay for this Sony PCDP/mp3.

Well I got it along with other goodies from Craigslist. For $30 I got a D-Link DI-604 Rev E, D-Link DI-624 Rev C AirPlus Xtreme G, and the Sony D-NE300. Everything works great!

I originally just wanted the DI-604 to replace my 5 year old Linksys BEFSR41 v2. It was overheating and tweaking out, I had to unplug it and plug it back in. I emailed the seller about the DI-604 and asked what kind of Discman they had pictured in the ad.

Yadda Yadda Yadda, long story short, she sold me the DI-604 and D-NE300 for $30 and threw in the DI-624 cause she was having some issues with it and could not get it to work. I just reset the thing to Factory Defaults and wha-la! it works perfectly!

The D-NE300 works well, and drives my KSC35's, 75's and MDR-7506's to decent loudness. I am going to make some Billboard Top 100 Hits of her Highschool years and give her the player and CD-R's as a Birthday gift.

Now I just need to find some low ohm portable cans to go with it. I am thinking JVC HA-FX33, Koss Plugs/Spark Plugs, KEB24, KEB20.

Got these earphones today after I was disappointed with lack of bass with Etymotic ER-6i. Although the mids and highs are not as clear as the ETy's, these have got to be the BEST $25 I have spent on earphones! They are comfy, provide very good isolation and have tighter bass than any other canalphone I have tried in the sub $50 category!!!

If you don't want to spend too much, then these are pefect! I got the green ones and they look bloody awesome too!!!
