So, first off, I'm not using a DIY IEM, but I figured that the knowledge of DIY people can help me figure out what might be wrong.
I've got the Westone W60s (6 BA drivers in each monitor). It was plugged into a DragonFly Red DAC and one day I think I dropped the tablet computer that it was all attached to and I noticed afterwards that the entire left IEM was lower in volume compared to the right.
- I put it through a tone generator and there's no gap in frequency output, so I don't think any of the individual BA drivers are outright blown.
- Changed cables and music players. Same thing.
- When I see how Westone constructs their internals in the video below the drivers all appear to be wired in series, so one disconnect in a wire would render the entire monitor useless, which is not the case in my situation:
- I cleaned out the audio port and the metal screen at the end of the port with hydrogen peroxide. Doesn't change anything.
- Any idea what might be causing the entire left side to be lower in volume than the right? I'm wondering if the DragonFly Red DAC maybe sent too much voltage or current into that side and somehow damaged all the drivers in the same way?
