Anybody know of one. Do I need to go all the way to the Ety's to get an in the ear style that sounds as good as the Portapro or do the Sony MDR -EX 70's do the job? Thanks.
If by "in the ear," you are referring strictly to canal 'phones such as the EX70s or Etys, I would say that "Yes," you have to go for the Etys. Having never heard the EX70s, I can only go by what many others on this board have said.......namely, that they are pretty bad.
You have to understand that the Ety sound is VERY different from the PortaPros. It is clearer and more detailed, yet very smooth at the same time. The bass is also quite different from the PortaPro bass.
If you are willing to consider earbuds as well, I can recommend the Sony E888s, which are closer in sound to the PortaPros than the Etys are. Another bud to consider is the Sennheiser MX500, which I don't like as much as the E888s, but many here like them more. It's really a matter of personal preference. Hope I've been of some help.
Thanks. Do you by chance know a site I could go to to look at the E888's. I have the MX 500 and don't care for them much. Not any better than the Apple earbuds I got with my iPod.
try grabbing a set of Sony MDR-E228LP earbuds (the "groove" ones) at a local Circuite City and take the rubbery pieces off the end (gently) and replace with typical foamies from your MX500's. I personally haven't found anything I like as much as the sound of the Portapro's and this was a viable solution for me (I have to use the first level of Mega Bass w/ the buds, though, to get the high end that the Portapros have).
