They sound clearer and more open then the stock tubes, not as smooth, but still pretty rounded and tubey if you A/B against solid state. They need a little break-in.

@Elegiac Have any idea if bigger tubes such as 6J5G may fit? I really want to test how much better this amp could get with higher end tubes. I have a friend selling some GEC 6j5g but I can't test them due to him having to ship from another state.

Holy F!!!!!!!

This little thing is mind blowing. The SH-9 by its self is already a nice sounding amp. But to say that this has added layering, a much wider soundstage, great depth, insane texturing into the low end and I feel no loss of resolution, or maybe very slightly but gain in overall musicality. To me, this combo sounds better than my Shiit Lyr+. What!!!! This small thing is a gem. I can only imagine what better tubes will do. Time to test on my other amps and dacs

Yeah the GE's are good. Not so warm as... earthy. I don't know. Less empty space between things. Nice body, very tubey.
The tubes I linked you have more empty space... sort of a glowy, cleaner euphony. In my experience.

Theres so many tubes to choose from. It says 6j5 tubes would fit. Does that mean 6j5g would fit?

I think they mean a chinese 6j5/russian 6j5p... I can't see 6j5g fitting in there.
