apearantly the Ipods will get color screens by the end of the year. thats pretty cool IMO, i thought it would be a year or two before all the pods got color screens. compared to a regular lcd screen how much battery will a color screen suck down (if the screen stays the same size)?

the 4g might also get colored too. I doubt that it will be the exact same color as the mini as you would most likely have to have an anodized alluminum face. I hope they use bright colors for the 4g

Compared to a color screen I'd prefer a high-contract OLED screen.

Much better than LCD IMHO

A color screen should actually improve battery life. I understand that the color screen technology they use in their iPod photo actually draws less power than the non-color screen. That's why the iPod photo has the longest battery life of all the iPods (Apple claims 15 hours....but it's 17+ according to independent tests). Regular iPods have batteries rated at 12 hours.

Right, just like the scroll wheel.

I thought they took the same amount of power to run, but more power to backlight? That's what i heard, anyway; not sure if it makes sense.

oh hmmm...i do not understand the need for color screens on a music player. unless there is a built-in camera to review the pictures that are taken, or there is movie playback capability, why would one need a color screen since the player will most probably be in the bag or pocket most of the time?

I agree with DigDub, I don't understand the reason for a color screen DAP, unless it can play movies or something. Anyways, I don't think the price will remain the same for color screen mini iPods, considering apple is usually much more expensive that the rest of the competition. I was willing to get a Zen micro next week and now I don't know what to do. All my friends have mini iPods so I figured a Zen Micro would make me more original.

You obviously haven't checked your computer history lately. More than not, they are the first out of the gate to use the next technology the rest of the industry will use.

... color display, mouse, floppy drive, laser printing, graphical painting, digital video output, SCSII, PCX, Firewire, onboard optical audio output, future deep searching (to name a few where they were first or one of the first to mass implement) ...

Every generation of the regular iPod has been cheaper than the previous and Apple really doesn't have any room to up their prices on the mini since the 20 GB iPod is only $50 more. So I tend to believe the rumors that the price will remain the same.

yeah, because apple wasn't the first to bundle a cd-rom, dvd-burner, widescreen lcd on a laptop, firewire, active matrix lcd on a laptop, mouse, gigabit ethernet or any other first with their products

First to implement a laptop, trackpad, USB, WiFi, Bluetooth 2.0, GUI, PDA, OS controlled liquid cooling, slot loading optical drives, lose the floppy drive. Of course as someone previously mentioned these were firsts in implementation in a consumer purchased system i.e. liquid cooling could be custom made in computers prior.

Alot of people love to player hate on Apple but could you imagine what the computer industry would look like today had it not been for Apple. What's Dell ever brought to the table except for cheap prices?
