From what i've read online it appears that if you touch it the wrong way the headband hinge on the AKG k371 would snap? but most of those posts are from 2-3 years ago. So is this still an issue? and are the k371's really that much better than a pair of dt770 80 ohms because of the harman curve and stuff to make it worth the supposedly worse build quality?

I like mine. The headband hinge is to make it foldable. It seems pretty durable and like it's meant to be portable and thrown in a backpack. They are pretty small though and made of plastic.

Sound quality is good. I wasn't wowed by them to be honest, they lack soundstage and bass impact. However the accuracy of them is great. It took me awhile to get used to them and hear the difference. They are great for music but not for things like games and movies which require more soundstage and bass oomph.

I'm not sure they would be a huge upgrade to your already good DT770.
