I have an opportunity to buy a set of AKG K240 50th Anniversary model.
I am wondering what they sound like - the K240 DF, the K240M or the K240 Studio - and I'm wondering whether the impedance is 600 ohms.

I know I like the K240 DF very much, although I understand many (most?) do not.
I own K240 Studios, which I think are substantially inferior to the K240 DF in that they have a slightly hyped bass and treble and audibly more distortion. They go louder easier, though.

I suspect they are like the K240M, but I don't know how the M compares to the DF or the Studio.
If they were 600 ohms and said to sound like the K240 DFs, I would jump on them. AKGs website is not very informative.

I can't really help you compare models, but I own the 240m and it's definitely 600ohm. They are also my favorite current phones. On a wide variety of material, they just sound great. I own k501s, which sound superb, but on a narrower range.

I don't know if there's anything unique about the anniversary model; other will I'm sure.

I paid around $40 for mine.

thanks, Kevin.

I can get these for $75. I may just take a chance that they have the same tonal characteristics as the DF model.

edit: - after a little more poking around on Google, I am beginning to think that the M, although apparently 600 ohms, may have a different tonal characteristic, so I'll wait a little longer.

Yeah, the M and the DF are certainly different sounding beasts. I don't have a clear idea what the differences are, but i like the DF better. (i have both)

The reason I am hesitant is that I have the 240 Studio (2 years old) and had the chance to compare it to the 240 DF and preferred the DF in every way. On the spec sheet they show lower distortion for the DF and that's what it sounds like, plus the bottom and top of the Studio sound just a little hyped, i.e., a subtle version of the infamous "smiley-face" EQ.

The 240 DF is the closest I've heard in mid and top to the Etymotic ER4S which I use in live recording, and trust.
