I've had a FiiO E7 for a while, but only recently dug it out of a box and I remembered why I stopped using it to begin with. It seems that I am forced to adjust the volume using the buttons on the DAC and my Mac volume controls, conviniently and familiarly placed on the keyboard, do nothing. Is this something that can be fixed on the E7? Is it something that is universal to DACs (would another one, perhaps the successor, the E07K, or the E17 have this feature)?

Thank you.

That is normal thing to happen. DAC is meant to output line out level, and that is set. Mac's own volume control won't work. You can try software volume control on you itunes. Just turn down volume on your itunes.
