Ya I thought the Stax tube amp was similar in concept but perhapps lower in performance than Kevin's knowing what a fanatic He is i am quite sure his tube amp would be great am have been considering having one Built for my Koss ESP 9B's I don't do high voltage anymore. are the old koss worth such an amp? otherwise ill postpone aquireing a tubed Gilmore untill later when i get some good Stax or What is that orphious?

Thanks for all your replies.. appreciated. I haven't rolled either the AD823 or AD712 in to the chiarra amp yet but will do shortly.

So far I've tried the following in the Chiarra:

LF353
NE5532
OPA2132
OPA2604
OPA2227
OPA2228

Out of these I prefer the sound of the OPA2132 although the 2227 and 2228 come very very close also.

Just the 2 AD op amps to try now and then I can decide which Op amp will remain in the Chiarra.

Another Hightly recomended dual op Amp in an 8 pin Dip is the AD-746. http://www.analog.com/Analog_Root/pr...,AD746,00.html This is IMHO alot better than the OPA-2132,OPA-2604, AD-712 and AD-823 under headphone loads but still not all that great. Warm clean sounding op amp used by Jung and others in assorted Audio circuits.
