How comfortable are the A500? I've read a lot here, but I'm still not sure about them, because the last phone that I tried with pleather pads, the HD497, was horribly uncomfortable. Every time I moved even slightly they creaked loudly. They didn't feel very good against my ears either, so I'm wondering how the A500 pads rate?

Thanks for your time,
-Jonathan.

I've never worn the ATH-A500, but they should feel similar to my ATH-A900s.

I find my ATH-A900s to be very comfortable; they do not "creak" like the HD497s. The pleather pads don't rest on your ear lobes like the HD497; they encircle your ear (the cups are ENORMOUS).

I never found my cousin's HD497 comfortable, either.

Currently listening to: "Time will Tell" by Utada Hikaru on my Koss Porta Pros.

I own both, and although I have pretty small ears and don't find the 497s horribly uncomfortable, A500s are much better.
Like frenchman said, they go all around the ear, and your ears don't touch the inner padding. The headband also has those 3d self-adjusting wings which are much better than the crap cushion of the 497s.

I'm wearing my new A500's right now. They are very comfy. I feel the press of the wings a little bit, but I have a big head. They sure sound better than my v600's!

Edit: Can't hardly feel they are on now. I just got them. I'll shut up now.

Very comfy. This is partly because of the soft material used and partly because they a BIG and totally surround/enclose the ears.

I find my A900s to be quite comfortable. I look forward to receiving them back form Audio-Technica. I would suspect that the A500s are similar in fit to the A900. If they are, then I would echo the comments of comfort as put forward by members in this thread.
