Those who have the 35's and 50's try this:

Cup your hands over the headphones while you are listening to music and then take them slowly off...repeat a few times and what do you notice?

In quite environments I notice sound coming from all around me when I cup my hands over them, whe I remove them I feel that the sound is going more into my ears directly...

So what do you notice?

I've thought about posting about this exact effect before. I think it happens mainly because they're 'vented' in the back, ie only slightly sealed. Most phones are sealed around the backside.

To me it gives an brief echo effect particularly noticeable in the midrange. I don't particularly care for the effect, but with certain music & with your hands at the right distance it can be a bit pleasing.

This effect is MUCH more noticeable with my Senn 495s - they literally need air ALL around them to sound their "best" - they sound kinda different, though maybe not worse, when I lay down.
