My friend told me a couple years ago about a funny thing involving tool and disney.
Much like the wizard of oz and pink floyd, tool's lateralus also seems to sinc well with the disney movie, fantasia 2000.
To test this out, hit play on the tool lateralus cd when the word DISNEY flashes in the beginning, and just let the cd play. There's a little overlap to the interludes between animatics but a lot of the music lines up, but just to list a couple of creepy things that match up:
During the toy soldier sketch while the balerina is spinning around you'll hear "twirling round and round"
When the whale gets seperated from his parents the music will quiet as he gets lost and as he's exploring you'll here "is this a test? it has to be..." almost like the thoughts of the baby whale.
The second the credits begin, the vocals stop and a drum percussion persists. The drums end when the credits end, kinda like an outro.
There are a lot more wierd coincidences, and it puts a really really interesting perspective on fantasia 2000 (i now prefer watching fantasia 2000 with lateralus in the background). You'll see that the scenes match up nicely with the attitudes and tones of the scene, and if done properly a lot of beats will match up to events in the music.
I will also say (playing devil's advocate) that since fantasia 2000 is designed to go with music (albeit classical), there were bound to be coincidences...but we'll never know.
Give it a try and let me know what you think. My friends and i have enjoyed this for the last couple years.
